Our Omaka tour explores some amazing gardens. Tranquil ponds, serene lakes, woodlands and birds to inspire and surprise you. As part of this tour you will be taken to our sponsors Hunters Wines. You will have the opportunity to view their picturesque native gardens and sample (and purchase) some of their marvellous fine wines.
Hortensia House – Huguette Michel-Fleurie
Huguette’s Hortensia House boasts a romantic flower garden. Masses of colour coordinated flowers, hazy pastels, blues and yellows match the trim on this Victorian Style house. Spring Creek, bisects the garden, in a peaceful pristine flow. Crossing to the other side via a bridge inspired by “Monet” just adds to the European flavour of this garden. “Hortensia” is the French name for the hydrangea which is one of Huguette’s favourite flowers. She boasts a collection of about 150 different varieties filling the shady areas around this beautiful home and garden.
Dog Point Corner – Peter and Chick Anderson
Our garden is full of contrast from formal courtyards, pool areas and a croquet lawn that compliment the unusual architecture of our home, to extensive native plantings along the stream that flows through the property. We have endeavoured to create a peaceful, green garden that will provide a haven for the native birds that we encourage to live here.
Timara Lodge – Bryan and Jan Johnson
This impeccably maintained garden was originally planted by Redwood Goulter back in 1910 and features many rare and unusual species of plants. Within the original framework the Johnson’s have created an essentially English style formal garden. It combines extensive woodland with a colourful perennial area. To the east of the lodge lies a lake, informal and natural, originally providing the irrigation to allow for the establishment phase of the trees.
The Griffiths Garden
Over the past fifteen years Jean and Harry Griffiths have developed their 3 acres of bare hillside into an established garden of roses, camellias, perennials and large trees complimented by 250 Olive trees. Far reaching views from the Richmond ranges on one side to the Wither hills on the other are bordered by the delightfully ordered vineyard rows. The paths that meander tranquilly through the garden provide different perspectives to the planted areas.
Ryland Estate – Peter and Trish Taylor
Over the past 10 years Peter and Trish have created a large tranquil country garden from an empty 4.5 acre paddock. Luckily they had several beautiful huge trees to work with. On entering you experience tantalising glimpses from the sweeping driveway of a huge lawn giving way to wonderful mature trees and gardens. The rose beds, lavender hedges and perennial borders of paeonies, hostas and hydrangeas, are all under planted with thousands of bulbs. Strategically placed rose and clematis, archways and gazebos invite contemplation, and all combine to provide a romantic setting.
Morning/Afternoon teas and Lunch are included in this price.
