The Garden of Mart and Chris Verstappen.
We have a surprise in store for you here. Entering the front garden Mart and Chris you pass Roses, Lavender, Camellias and their magnificent Magnolia, to their rear garden. This has been created in just six years from a relatively bare section. You will be captivated by a beautiful English border garden, with ornamental grapevines, Wisteria, Claret tree and a Swamp Cypress. This is complimented by a well stocked vegetable garden and glass house. Mart provides our surprise with his creation of a designated area housing his beloved Bonsai collection.
Moritaki – Peter and Andrea Forrest.
Our garden is set at the foot of the Wither Hills and features solely New Zealand native plants. A waterfall, stream and pond are the main features of our garden, designed by a Japanese friend and based on traditional Japanese principals that a water garden should reflect nature. The garden is home to many birds including Bell Birds and frogs in the summer.
Redburgh - Alister and Gay Elliot
Redheugh is a large urban garden within a rural setting. The property features extensive lawns with tree plantings to compliment the 'Country Style' house. Substantial borders of mixed plantings including viburnims, rhododendrons, roses and perennials ensure interest and colour all year round. The garden is completed with an orchard and built up vegetable garden to ensure both beauty and practicality in an easily cared for yet productive urband garden.
Rose Garden Villa - Chris and Marion St John Knight
As the name infers this is a predominately a rose garden; but it hosts also clemtis, honeysuckle and a mass of other creepers. Hanging baskets, flowering tubs and planter boxes abound providing colour all year round. Completing this beautiful garden are herbaceous boarders, fruit trees, soft fruits and a raised vegetable garden. Very floral, a little different and absolutely no grass to mow, what can we say!
Waterford - Barbara and Fergus Murray
The spring fed waters of Murphy's Creek flow though this garden giving it an air of tranquility not often found in an urban setting. Barbara and Fergus's shared love of trees is expressed in the large number of native and exotic species they have planted in the past seven years. Climbing roses drape over an arched walkway leading down to the gazebo where hours can be spent observing the birdlife, especially ducks, with eels and trout visible in the pristine waters. Roses, paeonies, lavender and Japanese anemones share the garden bed with old favourites that help shape and record the love of a lifetime of gardening.
