SALLY TAGG
BOTANICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
"The
artists eye decodes the flower message and sharpens its beauty"
New Zealand based photography Sally Tagg specialises
in botanical images
and flower portraits.
Her garden photography features prominently in a number
of national magazines. These commissioned assignments have
taken Sally from roof-top gardens in NYC to the Zem gardens
in Japan.
Sally's artwork often steps beyond traditional photographic
techniques, exploring new materials to produce large scale
'sculptural' works for outside installations. Her latest
work Pukanui Portal featuring at the BrickBay Sculpture Trail,
is a revolving 'portal' of Puka leaves which have been translated
from the original photograph into glass and stainless steel.
Her early portrait work used classical techniques such as
toning and hand colouring of black and white photographs.
In 1998 Sally combined her talents with renowned author Witi
Ihimaera to produced the book "On Top Down Under". Her latest
book, FLORASCOPE, explored the relationship between astrology
and flowers.
Sally is currently working on a series of large scale tropical
plant portraits for
Kevin Roberts ~Saachi worldwide.
Come with your camera, any camera or join up with someone
who has one, come and be inspired. Sally will show you how
to photograph still life indoors and outdoors. A slideshow
and practical demonstration will give you the tools to record
the ever changing seasons of your garden.
This workshop will demonstrate a typical set up for a still-life
magazine shoot; this could be a simple flower in a vase ,
or a more complicated arrangement. Participants need to bring
a favourite vase or container with some sort of botanical
specimen. Also a 'backdrop' (fabric, paper or table linen)
to go with their setting.
(Remember this is not a workshop on how to operation your
camera).
