Hortensia
House ~ Huguette Michel-Fleurie
Hortensia House's garden is overflowing with an abundance of Huguette's
favourite flower, hydrangea blooms in splashes of vibrant
colour. Numerous roses and hundreds of fruit and native
trees abound. Admire the Marlborough sky over the crystal
clear, light-dappled waters of the Spring Creek and an
inviting shaded pathway along the banks. Hortensia is a
Monet-inspired garden capturing an essence of serenity.
Rated a garden of Regional Significance by NZGT.
Dog Point Corner ~ Peter and Chick Anderson
This one hectare garden is full of contrast, from walled courtyards with
water features to extensive native plantings along a Millstream which runs
through the property to provide a habitat for birdlife. There are plantings
of fruit, citrus trees and hazelnuts. Recent additions are a beech hedged
croquet lawn and a large, formal pool area.
Rocenvin Estate Vineyard ~ Chris, Michelle and Colin Fletcher
This one hectare garden features a dry river bed linking two ponds, which
are lined with irises, hostas and other bog loving plants. A rose walkway
with rhodo’s and buxus hedging leads to cottage planting with euonymus
hedging and a shady woodland garden. The potager features vegetables
and flowers in a mirror image lined with Lonicera hedges. Elsewhere are
rhodo’s under planted with hostas and other shade loving plants, euphorbia
and grasses, sedums, viburnims and cornus. A garden for everyone to enjoy.
Cottonwood ~ Colin and Cheryl Payne
Cheryl and Colin bought Cottonwood Grove in the Onamalutu Valley
3 ½ years ago as an established 1.5 hectare garden that had wonderful
structure and had been extensively planted with a wide variety of trees and
plants. Thinning of trees and heavy pruning of others has been the main
undertaking to allow the myriad of hostas, winter roses, hydrangeas, rhodes
etc to thrive. Lots of meandering paths to lead to hidden, tranquil garden
area full of surprises.
Tussock Garden & Olive Grove ~ Colin and Hilary Clere
Enjoy the tranquillity of this Waihopai Valley garden with its extensive
plantings of ornamental trees and native grasses, landscaped to take
advantage of the spectacular mountain views. Colin and Hilary’s attractive
mud block home overlooks the olive grove of Tuscan varieties that produce
an enticing range of extra virgin olive oils available for tasting.
